Letters to the Voters

Thank You!

As Shirley and I sit here, trying to take in this election, all I can do is express gratitude to the Democrats of Tigard, Sherwood, King City, Wilsonville, and Charbonneau for selecting me to represent them in the Oregon Senate. And to offer my thanks to everyone who made this moment possible.  Today, my primary opponent officially conceded the race.  I extend a sincere congratulations to Chelsea King for running a great campaign, and for your passion, energy and commitment to the people of District 13.  I am confident that you will continue to lead our community in significant ways.

When I started out as a kid on the southside of Chicago, I never imagined becoming an elected official. My family, my community, and my nation gave me the guidance and support to become a successful leader in the tech industry. I was able to support my family and now give back as an advocate and volunteer in the community. But now I will be able to apply all that experience and the insights it has given to me to make needed changes when it comes to housing, homelessness, health care, public safety, climate change, and other critical challenges we face.

All of this would not have been possible without support from unions, environmentalists, organizations representing our BIPOC communities, local businesses, and members of the community. We truly built a broad coalition to create change and I look forward to carrying forward their priorities in the Legislature.

As we look forward to the next few months towards the general election, I hope that you will consider joining our campaign.  Through donating, helping knock on doors, hosting house parties, and telling your friends and neighbors why they should support our campaign and vote in November.  I look forward to continuing to meet neighbors from all corners of our District and learning about your priorities.

Why I am running . . .

Thank You!
